Nhan Ho<\/a>, choreographer and artistic director of the Nhan Ho Project<\/a> will dance anywhere\u00ae<\/span> again this year. Nhan jpaticipated for the first time in 2012, when he danced in front of Gorgeous Salon in San Jose, CA. The following year he organized a contact improv jam on the San Jose State Campus. He continues to dance anywhere\u00ae<\/span> because “it connects me with everyone, rather than just dancers. I love connecting people through this medium”.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month Nhan showed, Into the Unknown<\/em>, a solo work from his residency at The Garage<\/a> in San Francisco. We took a moment to ask Nhan a few questions about this piece and his creative practice.<\/p>\n

NM: How is the process of creating a solo work different from working with collaborators or other dancers? Which mode of work is most natural to you and why?<\/p>\n

NH: The most natural part of creating work is to put myself outside of the work and become the director and choreographer. What was challenging was to not be able to see what I created until after the fact. I love collaborating with dancers and other artists. It is what defines NHP.<\/p>\n

NM: Why did you focus the piece toward the diagonal?<\/p>\n

NH: As part of choreographic intention, the diagonal is important to this work. It provided curiosity as I begin to wonder “into the unknown.”<\/p>\n

NM: How does dance anywhere\u00ae<\/span> and site specific performance fit into your creative practice?<\/p>\n

NH: I love site specific performances because I grew up doing improv and utilizing props. Site specific allows me to be connected with a different voice and to use special awareness.<\/p>\n

NM: What are your plans for dance anywhere\u00ae<\/span> this year?<\/p>\n

NH: Many thoughts come to mind in terms of dance anywhere\u00ae<\/span> this year, but I have yet to decide. Stay in touch for more info.<\/p>\n
