Sarah Bush’s ongoing project “This Land” is inspired by the diverse landscape of the United States. Sarah places herself and her dancers in various natural sites, capturing their experience through videos or photographs. Each performance is a collaboration between the dancer and the environment; the elements, the textures, the sounds, even the history and culture of the land influence the body’s movements. The\u00a0improvised\u00a0performance and ever changing location allow endless opportunities for expression.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The videos exploring the idea of “This Land” are straight forward. The raw footage allows the dancers movements in relation to the space be all that captures your attention. Through the stillness of the setting, subtle sounds of the landscape add to the atmosphere of the performance, ferns rustling, a light wind, the sound of fabric moving.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah Bush Dance Project brings “This Land” back to the Bay Area after receiving support with Oakland’s Cultural Funding Program. Three site-specific pieces will be performed at different Oakland parks starting February and ending in April. The first performance, titled “Recreate”, will take place at Lake Merritt Amphitheater Sunday, February 21st at 1:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
